First Identification: The Gilded Age
The Gilded Age was extremely important to the time period of
The 1890s. The Gilded Age was primarily known for
hiding the problems that faced America, industrialists and other wealthy men were enriching themselves at the public's expense, and that the government wasn't telling the whole truth.
The Gilded Age is important to the time period of 1890s in a couple of
ways. One such way The Gilded Age is important to the time period is because
the Americans of the Nation should have known about what the government and the rich were doing, because as poor as they were already, they didn't need to lose more resources. Another way The Gilded Age is important is because the wealthy men were enriching themselves at the public's expense. The theme that The Glided Age represents is Theme #8. The Glided Age represents this theme because
the government at the time would technically speak for them, because they had the authority to hide some crucial conflicts that America faced from the citizens of America. The government speaks for the country, and the government use their power for good and for bad. It would be bad in this case. (Pg 644, paragraphs 1-4)
Second Identification: Corruption

Corruption represents this theme because Power does come from the bottom up. Those who weren't rich or in the government had no power or no say in many political arguments or what was good for the country. The only way that people could make a change is if they stood up for themselves and stood up for those who couldn't have a voice. (Page 646, Paragraph 2)

The theme that Muckrakers represent is Theme #11. Muckrakers represent this theme because they were the ones that made a change in a unique way. An example is Jacob Riis, a photographer that put together a boatload of pictures of squalor and poverty. Another one is Upton Sinclair, similar to the concept of the Gilded Age, wrote the novel The Jungle about the sick conditions of meatpacking facilities and mixing rats in the meat of the factory. People were unaware of what they were eating. (Page 648, Paragraph all of the paragraphs were used in this text.)
